Experience Pu'u Menehune - God's Country! 13 Acre Ranch-home, Stream & Waterfalls!

Step into a world of tranquility at Pu'u Menehune - God's Country! 13 Acre Ranch-home, Stream & Waterfalls, a recently renovated haven nestled in the heart of Kamuela, Hawaii. This stunning 13-acre estate was once part of Parker Ranch's bull pasture, and now welcomes you with its enchanting stream, captivating waterfalls, and breathtaking vistas of the sacred Mauna Kea volcano.

Your adventure begins here, where you'll find yourself hiking through an area that served as the summer escape for Hawaiian royalty, known as ali'i. The cool temperatures, open spaces, and rich outdoor experiences make this location truly deserving of the title "God's Country."

The charming bungalow-style home dating back to the 1920s is a piece of history. Once associated with the renowned Waimea Hotel, it was saved from demolition and lovingly moved to its current site. After over two years of careful restoration, this property showcases period antiques and fixtures that transport you back in time—complete with high ceilings adorned with original crown moldings, a wood-burning fireplace, and an inviting wrap-around porch perfect for evening relaxation.

As night falls, indulge in the spectacular views of Mauna Kea illuminated by the moonlight. Consider taking a 'moon walk' beneath the starry skies. Awaken each morning to the aroma of fresh Kona coffee as you watch the sunrise sweep across Parker Ranch's vast pastures, lively with grazing cattle and framed by scenic pu'u (cinder cones) that grace the landscape. The enchanting surroundings are further enhanced by the sight of horses roaming freely against a backdrop reminiscent of Jurassic Park.

Located amid lush native forests, ranches, and unspoiled nature, Pu'u Menehune features its own flowing stream dotted with mesmerizing waterfalls and tranquil ponds. Wildlife abounds here; be on the lookout for Ring-Necked and Kalij pheasants, wild turkeys, California quail, and endemic honeycreepers, along with majestic Hawaiian owls (Pueo) and hawks (I'o). The land is partially forested with indigenous Koa, Ohia, Iliahi ("sandalwood"), Hapu'u ferns, and other native flora, while a variety of fruit trees contribute to the natural beauty—including apple, peach, pear, plum, cherry, orange, tangerine, lemon, lime, and clementine trees.

This private sanctuary offers peace and quiet, with hiking trails just a two-minute stroll from your doorstep leading to awe-inspiring waterfalls and unparalleled views of Mauna Kea and Parker Ranch lands below. Sitting at 3,300 feet elevation, you'll experience ever-changing weather patterns and might even find yourself enveloped in clouds or mist during your stay.

While feeling secluded, the friendly town of Waimea is merely five minutes away, providing modern conveniences for your comfort. We invite you to join us in preserving the charm of our historic home and the pristine beauty of this incredible land—truly God's Country!

Your cozy retreat includes two bedrooms and two baths, accommodating up to five guests comfortably. The gourmet kitchen features an antique porcelain double sink alongside modern stainless steel appliances, ensuring all your culinary desires are met. The living spaces are beautifully adorned with vintage décor and offer cable TV, a DVD player, a CD stereo system, and a luxurious walk-in slate shower boasting panoramic views.

Begin your journey toward a memorable stay at Pu'u Menehune - God's Country! 13 Acre Ranch-home, Stream & Waterfalls. With aloha spirit, we welcome you to experience the magic of this remarkable property!

Summary: I want to be clear, most of the reasons for our rating were out of our host's control. There are many good reasons to stay in this house. Our trip was one of those where a lot of things went wrong. The house is in a fantastic location in the hills above Waimea, with wonderful views of Mauna Kea. We saw wild turkeys, pheasants, and wild pigs on the property. The guestbook in the house had many entries where previous guests noted the peace and tranquility of the home. We stayed in December, in a very rainy and cold period. The host had warned us to bring warm clothing, which we did. However, there was a gap under the back door and in some window frames where wind and rain were coming in, making the home very cold and damp. In a discussion with the host after our visit, the host did think the house had settled recently and was sending a carpenter in to work on the door. So I would imagine this may not happen to other visitors. However, we used every blanket in the house to keep warm, and we left those out to be washed after our visit. While we didn't find the house to be very comfortable, the weather was a factor in that. Certainly the host is not responsible for the weather. Our host did call me after we left, asking about a door handle that had fallen off, and a leaky soap bottle. The handle had fallen off the first time I touched it, and the soap was already leaking when we got there. I suggest that the host visit his house to see what items need repair.
